Although the Alpaca is a species native to South America they have certainly found a home here in Australia.
We may think them an unusual animal, (they are a distant relative of the camel), but who are to judge when you look at some of our native animals .
There are now large numbers of Alpaca Herds throughout the countryside as many farmers have diversified into multiple stock breeding.
The “wool” from the Alpaca is said to be among the finest available in the world

On our trip today we again make our way to the fertile Hawkesbury Region, where at North Richmond we cross the river for a short drive to the slopes at Kurmond and Tanglin Lodge Alpaca Farm.
After our morning tea at the farm we will be introduced to some of the “girls” as the operators refer to their animals.
The morning session will be informative, and this is followed by our lunch, again provided by our hosts at Tanglin Lodge.
